JAMES E. WALENTYNOWICZ, MD
has been in the private practice of Orthopedic Surgery here in St. Louis for 21 years. He is a 1977 graduate of St. Louis University with a degree in chemistry and also a 1981 graduate of its School of Medicine. He received his internship and orthopedic training through the United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Walentynowicz served as medical officer aboard the USS Ponce in 1982-83. He also was the orthopedic surgeon for the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, 1987-89.
During his time here in St. Louis, Dr. Walentynowicz was the president of the St. Louis Orthopedic Society (1995), and the team physician for Clayton High School sports (1990-2001).
His special interests include:
- * Joint replacement surgery
* Fracture care
* Arthroscopy/sports medicine, and
* Minor surgery of the hand and foot
Dr. Walentynowicz is board certified by the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery, scoring higher than 95% of his peers on his most
recent recertification exam.

KAREN S. THARP, FNP-BC
is a Family Nurse Practitioner working with James E. Walentynowicz, MD. Karen is dual (AANP & ANCC) Board Certified with extensive training in Orthopedics. She is authorized by the State of Missouri to
* Examine and treat patients (both in the office and in the hospital)
* Administer injections
* Order diagnostic studies, and
* Prescribe treatment and/or medications
In addition, Karen acts as Dr. Walentynowicz’s First Assistant in all surgical procedures performed in the operating room. She has been working with him since 2003. Together, they strive to provide cutting edge treatment and conscientious care to each patient.
